I will occasionally post Gear Reviews on the site.  One thing I will not do is post a review of gear I do not personally own and use.  Reviews will also probably be fairly infrequent as once I find a good piece of gear I generally use it until it has to be replaced.  I am not a serial gear buyer and don’t feel the need to have stuff just to have it.  My basement has enough crap in it already without me adding more stuff I won’t use to fill it up.

My reviews will be a combination of text and then a few ratings criteria.  The ratings will rate an item on:

  • Price
  • Ease of Use
  • Versatility
  • Durability
  • Overall Rating

Each criteria will get between 1 and 5 stars with 1 being the worst and 5 being the best with the overall rating being the average of the four criteria.  It is that simple.  Whether new gear is worth the money to buy it and time to learn to use it is usually evident within the first few minutes after you get it out of the box.

I try my best to buy equipment made in America or Europe even if that means I pay a little bit more.  This is mainly because I have found that such gear is usually of better quality than stuff made in a 3rd World sweatshop.  The world being how it is that is not always possible and I will always include the country of manufacture in my review if I can determine it from a tag or label on the gear.

Full Disclosure – Lastly, items that I own and like will get added to the Simple Survival aStore and I will provide links (almost exclusively Amazon because they often beat the price even if you buy from the manufacturer) to where you can purchase them.  These are affiliate links in that if you follow that link and then buy that item I get a commission for driving traffic to Amazon.
